Manufacturing Designer/Programmer

Overview:

Performs diversified computer aided design and drafting duties working from sketches and concepts to prepare assembly and detail drawings.
Review Foam Models and Drawings and create detailed assembly method CNC programs addressing Design for Assembly and ensuring efficient utilization of stock materials and assembly practices.

WHAT YOU'LL DO:

  • Utilizes AutoCAD, IGEMS, and/or Solid Edge CAM Pro software to develop CNC programs for CNC Equipment including 3 Axis Water Jet and 3 Axis Router equipment while considering design complexity and ensures the optimal breakdown of components for cost purposes, clarity of assembly and other critical factors.
  • Configures and downloads files to Water Jet, and CNC Router software control; sets adjustments, pressure and other vital information according to order and material specifications.
  • Ability to operate CNC Equipment to manufacture a product.
  • Ability to train and guide machine operators to use programs and equipment efficiently.
  • Takes verbal or written instructions and follows blueprints, Bill of Material (BOM) and/or assembly drawings.
  • Understands customer intent and translates into a manufactured product utilizing the most economical manufacturing processes.
  • Reads and breaks down engineering prints/drawings into components that best utilize stock materials and allows assembly operations to be performed in the most efficient manner.
  • Works closely with engineering, drafting, estimators and assemblers to communicate errors or propose changes, which would make work more efficient.
  • Works with Production personnel as needed to ensure internal process control and meeting of customer requirements.
  • Works with Engineering and Standards Teams on optimal design for manufacturability by capturing and sharing best practices.
  • Provides guidance on routing process and machine times to Standards Team.
  • Plans for efficient CNC machine selection which should maximize stock usage, build-ups, and other related activities necessary for layout of subcomponent and unit construction and assembly for a variety of first time and repeat insert requirements.
  • Responsible for the programming of CNC equipment including waterjets, router machinery.
  • Follows company policies and practices as outlined in the Employee Handbook and/or applicable employment agreement.
    Follows safety guidelines and procedures in accordance with the job.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned.

WHAT YOU'LL NEED:

  • Minimum of 3-5 years experience in Programming with IGEMS and Solid Edge CAM Pro or similar CNC programs.
  • Working knowledge of CAD modeling and Drafting Principles.
  • Working knowledge of MS Office Suite.
  • Must be able to read and interpret blueprints and accurate measuring skills.
  • Must possess very good written, math and verbal communication skills.
  • Must have knowledge of 3 to 5 axis CNC machinery.

PREFERRED
Qualifications:

  • Associates degree in Engineering or related field.
  • Experience with Solid Edge, Solid Works or similar 3D modeling programs.
  • Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing knowledge.
  • Ability to create simple fixtures to improve manufacturing efficiencies.

  • Must be able to operate in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple projects simultaneously.
